The end of Avengers: Infinity War left many moviegoers reeling and asking what will happen in Avengers 4.

While plenty of fan speculation and theories pop up every day, one especially intriguing idea draws from the comics and has to do with a seventh Infinity Stone. That’s right, in the Marvel Comics Universe there is a seventh all-powerful gem.

SPOILERS! The following will discuss the events of Avengers: Infinity War and possible story elements of Avengers 4. If you want to remain spoiler-free, turn back now.

Avengers 4 Theories - A Seventh 'Ego' Infinity Stone Could Be The Salvation Of All Your Fallen Heroes

This fan speculation comes courtesy of Reddit user TruthOfAlecius, who theorizes that Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) will arrive in Avengers 4 to try and stop Thanos. The post-credits scene teases Captain Marvel’s arrival, and we’re still getting Danvers’ origin movie before Avengers 4, so she will likely play a big role in the 2019 film.

This theory also states that the heroes who “die” at the end of Infinity War are actually trapped in another dimension, possibly inside the Soul Stone. TruthOfAlecius speculates about a seventh Infinity Stone (Ego Stone or Gem) as a possible source of Danvers’ power, although they are not confident on this part. In the comics, Carol Danvers gets her powers after an explosion melded her DNA with that of Mar-Vell, a Kree soldier.

The Ego Stone might be able to bring back those who were transported to the other dimension.

What Is The Ego Gem or Stone?

The Ego Stone (or Ego Gem) is the seventh Infinity Stone, hidden in an unknown realm known as the Ultraverse in the Marvel Comics Universe. Infinity War explains the Infinity Stones were created by the Big Bang that gave birth to the universe. In the comics, the seven Infinity Stones were actually held within a single omnipotent being called Nemesis, who grew tired of her existence and willed herself to shatter into the six Infinity Stones, with the seventh stone holding her consciousness.

The comics do not explain the Ego Stone’s power in great detail, saying only that it’s very powerful and that there was a time it took possession of a former Avenger named Sersi. When the Ego Stone comes into contact with the other Infinity Stones, Nemesis will be reborn.

What do you think of this fan theory? Do you believe a seventh Infinity Stone will appear in Avengers 4?
